The fantasy costume mailing list concentrates on the design, motivation and execution of fantasy clothing and costume, from all eras: past, present and future. Your imagination is your only limitation! Typical topics include special event costumes ("cons" and parades), science fiction costumes, mythological and other non-factual historic-type costumes, serious Halloween and Mardi Gras costumes, theatrical costumes, using and finding patterns, materials, books, and finding sources for supplies. We discuss mask making techniques, using wigs and other head gear, makeup issues, vacuum forming (mold making and building), using plastics and other materials safely, dyeing fabrics, incorporating mixed media into costumes, the use of unusual materials such as aluminum cans, chain links or wire cloth, etc. and the use of various fabrics, such as lycra, sheers, netting and metallics, etc., to achieve special effects. Notifications of publications, galleries, shows and other venues that offer displays of fantasy costume, and learning opportunities available through classes and workshops, are also of interest to this list. Advertisements or announcements for costumed events are also welcome, but those of you in groups that focus on costuming of a specific type (science fiction, fantasy, medieval recreation, war reenactment, etc.) should refrain from using this list for group-specific socializing, promotion, or persona fabrication. For that type of conversation, please use your organization's own newsgroup or mailing list, which has been specifically set up to encourage those types of discussions. When using this list, please follow the normal rules of net etiquette and don't post messages widely divergent from the charter, and keep personal chat to private e-mail. Please respect all copyright laws when using this list. Practically speaking, that means you should post references or explain how to get instructions, rather than copying those instructions from some other publication or post (without permission of that author). It's this list's policy that individual articles submitted to this list are the property of the author of the post. Do not repost articles from this list in _any_ forum without the original author's consent.
